I love working with colour, particularly taking inspiration from plants and nature. This design was developed from a photo of sedum and lichen on a granite rock on the Cornish coast path. Using double weave gives scope for mixing areas of solid and blended colour across the work.

Techniques:

Hand woven double weave, 24 shaft, 6 blocks of plain weave.

Dimensions:

48cm wide x 188cm long (excluding fringes)

Materials:

16/2 combed cotton

Loom:

24 Shaft AVL Technical Compu Dobby

Karen Erlebach

I started tapestry weaving in the late 1990’s, and joined a local Guild of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers group.  By 2006 I had moved on to multi-shaft weaving and began selling my work through galleries and craft shows, which I continued to do until 2021. During this time I joined Complex Weavers and the Double Weave Study Group.  I love working from inspiration source photographs, particularly from nature, using them to develop patterns and colour schemes.  ‘On a Rock’ was developed from a photo of a granite rock (on the South West Coast Path in Cornwall) covered in sedums and lichens.
My main loom is a 24 shaft AVL Technical Dobby and I also have a smaller 24 shaft workshop dobby.
