Brenda Gibson – Interlacements

This work is a development of my interest in exploring satin as a structure with use of color to create an optical illusion of ribbons interlacing in plain weave. There are just two blocks of 8-end satin, woven alternately warp-faced or weft-faced, plus tubular doubleweave selvedges for a neat finish. (Thanks to a piece by Lynn Smetko in ‘8 Shafts Beyond the Beginning’ for the tubular selvedge idea.)

The main challenge was to select 8 different colors that would give good contrast and a vibrant but harmonious result working together.
